Living on the boat

Hi Guys, this is Sally I just ended 4th grade and it is now summer! It has been very complicated moving onto our boat! Our boat is much smaller than our house so we have to squeeze stuff in! It is very crowded and everything takes more time! Can’t wait to share our adventure with you!

First Sail

Hi, this is Lucy, on Saturday we did our first sail! Here’s the story-from my  perspective:

I woke up late at around 10 and did the usual morning stuff (brush teeth, comb hair, eat breakfast, etc.) After that we started our sail. At first we just motored out of the marina. Right as we got out of the marina the waves started tumbling on our boat. Our boat went up and down each time my stomach jolted. I apparently didn’t have my sea stomach yet!! Me and Willie lay on the ground both of our stomachs hurting!  We changed to sailing a little bit later and from then on my stomach was fine! I sometimes sat on the  bow (front) of the boat on the seats and let my legs dangle untill they got splashed by the cool water.  We had lunch and then continued to our destination in Milwaukee Wisconsin.  Once we got to the place we were going to anchor at, the sound of music was blasted super loud. We knew that the noise wouldn’t be over all night so we decided just to go back. By then it was about 4:45 so we would have to motor to get back before dark.  We motored the way back meeting lots of nice boaters and sailors. We saw a beautiful moon and sunset while we were motoring! (I will post a picture soon) It was very fun!  We came back to the dock and some nice boaters helped us get tied up. When we made it back it was about 9:15. It was very fun to learn some different things to do to sail. I helped with a couple of things. The first time I helped put the sail down and once I helped put it up. I am excited to continue learning lots of things about sailing and how to do it.

Love and Luck’s First Voyage

Hi, this is Lucy. Our first voyage was exciting, well most of the time. We motored the whole way from Sheboygan to Racine. To start off, I woke up with the sound of the motor starting at 6:23 a.m. I fell back asleep to the hum of the motor seconds later though. I woke up, for real this time, at about 9:30. It was very exciting to sit watch for a while. I am very glad that I got my new glasses because soon after I as taking watch, a boat came. We found lots of fun and interesting new things about our boat. It was great, except for one fact, BUGS!!!!! There were bugs everywhere, in the galley, in the sails, in the cockpit, everywhere! The spiders in the spiderweb on our boom where probably thrilled though! We arrived to our spot in Racine at around 4 pm. We explored it at the marina and ate a good grilled dinner at the grills they have at the marina. It was a very eventful and tiring day and everyone was ready for a good night of sleep.
Bye for now,
the one and only
Lucy

Boat Update

Hey guys! This is Heidi, the oldest kid on the boat. I am in 8th grade and enjoy many outdoorsy activities including hiking, backpacking, camping, swimming, snorkeling, yoga, and of course, sailing. One of the most frequently asked question I get is, are you excited? And yes, I am super excited to begin our adventure. I can’t wait to explore new cultures, see lots of marine life, and most of all, get to spend time with some of my favorite people 24/7.

For the update part of this post, I wanted to inform y’all that we have found a boat! After looking at a few other catamarans, we settled on a beautiful 37 foot cat. We are all super excited to get ready to move onto our 3 cabin home. The boat has 2 heads(bathrooms), 3 cabins(bedrooms) and a nice kitchen area and a small table inside and another table outside. The boat also has a small trampoline at the front of the boat that I’m sure my sisters and I will enjoy.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to this blog site. I hope that you are having a spectacular day and I will hopefully be back soon with some more good news!

That’s all for now,

Come sail away…

I am writing to share the news of our family’s upcoming sailing adventure.  Mark and I have dreamed of and are planning to sail around the world when we retire.  However, we have recently decided to bump up our departure date and sailing plan to include our girls…not around the world (at this time) but for a 2 year stint through much of the Caribbean—leaving from Florida this November and returning to Wilmette for the fall of 2019.  We hope our journey will take us south through the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Haiti, Dominican, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, St. Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and down to Grenada.  From there, we plan to head back north by way of Trinidad, Venezuela, Panama, Columbia, Costa Rica, Cuba, and back to Florida.  I’m sure our plans will change a hundred times before we return home (and likely before we even head out).  I am looking forward to many new adventures sailing, boat schooling, learning about new cultures, and living a different lifestyle.  We are still learning lots about the best ways to stay in touch, where to blog, packing lists, food lists, boat parts lists, and things we don’t even know about yet.

So, if your children come home and tell you that Heidi, Lucy, or Sally is going on a sailing trip—we are!  We look forward to a new and different lifestyle camping on the water.  The girls will all be learning how to sail, how to stand watch on ocean passages, how to fish, how to wash laundry in a 5 gallon bucket using seawater, right along beside us.

In the meantime, we are purging all kinds of household stuff, looking for renters, thinking about property managers for our house, inexpensive storage units, etc.

We look forward to sharing more as we get closer.  And, we would love to have visitors and/or meet up with friends along the way.  Now, to find a boat…
